With my friend Lauren in town and staying in Fisherman's Wharf, this was a great time to take her to one of my favorite restaurants: Sotto Mare. Her, my girlfriend, and I all arrived at 6 pm on a Tuesday to discover they wouldn't have a seat available until 8:30. It turns out, they take reservations. Their website doesn't mention that, though. As we were all hungry, we decided to look at other options. For as packed as Sotto Mare was, right next door at California Fish Market was the opposite - not a single patron in the restaurant. We decided to keep walking down Green until we came across Sodini's and we were all glad we did. You walk past the sign stating 'Over 100 Years in North Beach' and it looks it as you enter into this classic Italian bar area. The bartender told us to grab a seat anywhere, and we took the far right window seat. There were a few other groups when we entered, but by the time we left at 8, it was packed. We quickly received a basket of fresh bread and took time at the menu. Shout out to our waitress, wearing sunglasses inside, a giants tee, and giving that authentic Italian-American experience. She first said 'Don't spend too much time on the menu, I'll tell you what you want.' When my friend ordered the rose which was too red, which our waitress may have joked was just a watered down red, she then said she's going to throw it out in the street - AND SHE DID! For the record, my friend enjoyed her subsequent white. The menu had a lot to offer - the variety of pastas come in your choice of sauce (red, white, pesto), they have linguine in all its formats, and they have standard secondi like steak, lamb, and parmigiana. My friend Lauren got the chicken parmigiana, my girlfriend got the cheese ravioli pesto, and I got the veal parmigiana. The Secondi come with choice of minestrone soup or house salad. We both went with the house salads, and they do not skimp on this salad - full of creamy dressing, romaine, croutons, chick peas, beans, mushrooms, olives, cheese. It was intense and easily shareable. Both my friend and I loved our parms! The veal was thin, but perfectly crispy with the right amount of cheese on top. And the side of linguine marinara was excellent. Honestly, with how good the side of linguine was, I would have to get the linguine with clams if we returned. My girlfriend loved her ravioli and pesto, and she shared a bite with me. Tasted incredibly fresh and a good mix of flavors between the cheese and the sauce. While we didn't order it, another table got the fried calamari and the one next to us the got the steamers and both smelled amazing. Neither of my guests are big shellfish fans, plus all the food we were getting, so we nixed an appetizer. Maybe with a group of four? We had an amazing meal, some of the most fun service we've had in years, in a spot with great, casual ambiance. I highly recommend Sodini's, really glad we got to discover it, and recommend it to everyone looking for good Italian food.

Well, our experience fell far short from other reviewers. We were looking for old-school Italian and Sodini's certainly fulfills in atmosphere and menu options. Arrived for an early Tuesday night dinner (June 14) as they are popular, the restaurant doesn't take reservations and we wanted to sit outside (for health safety). Our server stopped by and said she'd be back to take our order and yet never came back and it wasn't busy at that time. I finally got up, went looking for her and a different server offered to help. So, we felt better, had our wine opened and munched on bread. We ordered four different dishes but only the gnocchi was enjoyed. Everything was mediocre at best and the slap-dash cooking was disappointing, as we were ready for a fulfilling meal and good time. We all felt Sodini's prices are high for the lack of quality. I would not recommend it to friends as there are plenty of other establishments to choose from... Atmosphere (outside): 2/3 popular parklets/street noise Food: 2/3 Service: 2/3

What can I say, I always look forward to my next visit to Sodini's! I usually get the gorgonzola gnocchi, which is absolutely fantastic. My partner gets linguine with white sauce, and he loves it. Great bread, and great drinks. Plus the night life after dinner in North Beach is wonderful, even if you just walk around the neighborhood after dinner. I'm getting hungry just writing this review.

A San Francisco staple. This is my husband's favorite North Beach restaurant. The menu is simple but the food is really good. Parking in North Beach in general is not easy, so plan for that if you're driving. The only sad thing is that they don't have dessert. I always want tiramisu when we come here and I always forget there isn't dessert, there is however, a good bar inside if you're into that kinda thing.

I happened upon Sodini's after I showed up to another restaurant and it was closed. Sodini's, opened in 1906, has a very established look and I thought, hey, it's gotta be good if it's been around that long! I did not have reservations but was quickly seated. I was impressed by the ornate, antique bar and the dark romantic, intimate decor. Wait staff was just a tinge slow but they were busy; everyone was very polite and the team helped each other out. The wine selection was complete and their caprese salad was tasty. I did not have space to order both a primi and secondi dish, but the gnocchi gorgonzola was DELICIOUS. The gnocchi were filled with pesto and the sauce was mixed with mushrooms--oh my gosh if you love gnocchi and mushrooms and cheese...you will go to sleep happy after *this*. Seriously...I highly recommend the gnocchi Gorgonzola!!!!!!
